Here’s the truth about what IL26-126 does and doesn’t do.
What Initiative IL26-126 DOES:
- Requires people in WA to provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote.
- Aligns with federal election law, Executive Orders and recent federal court rulings.
- Accepts multiple government-issued documents and forms of ID to satisfy its proof requirement.
- Sets statewide standards but allows local election officials reasonable independence in implementation.

What Initiative IL26-126 DOESN’T Do:
- Suppress or discourage voter registration. In any way.
- End Vote by Mail (The Seattle Times got this wrong and issued a correction).
- Change current voting in any way.
- Require anyone to buy an enhanced WA driver’s license or ID.
- Create any “poll tax” or other barrier to voting.
